The Mug Shot
THE MAN
Jason P Yoder is a performing, songwriting, guitarist. A seasoned recording artist based in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. Americana Blues is a fair label even though Jason feels labels don't paint an accurate picture of his music. Jason has been playing guitar for over half of his life. The songwriting was right behind but seems to have really ignited in his more recent years. With three albums and two singles currently released; Jason's musical ball has only just started rolling.
In his extensive years of study, Jason P Yoder has learned with great artists, such as; Roy Book Binder, John Cephas, and John Jacksons. Jason is an independent artist who is influenced by a large variety of musicians and styles of music. "One solid foot in The Blues" is an accurate description made of Yoder, who enjoys performing, writing, and recording music- listening, too!
On average, Jason P Yoder writes about 5 songs (lyrics and music) a month. Inspiration strikes this man in funny ways, be it a podcast or peculiar weather patterns, it seems to bring out the music in him. Genres are just as fluid as Jason's inspiration. A great example of this would be a song Jason wrote earlier this year, the riff made the song come out feeling very "British Pop" which doesn't really fit his sound. JP put a different spin on the chords and had excellent results landing it in a completely different genre.
Jason P can man a stage and demand attention with the best of them. He also enjoys sharing the stage with other competent players. Yoder had the pleasure of squeezing on stage with Garry Cogdell, Chaz De Poalo, and Stephen A Love for a fantastic evening of fine picking. When in Nashville, Jason also gets to share the stage with some really great talent.
Recording has been the front of Jason's focus for the past year or so. Jason does his own recording, producing, and engineering. It's a very independent process, the only step not completed in his home is the print and pressing of the albums which is done 3 hours away! Though Jason records his own songs in his studio, in 2017 Jason P Yoder had the opportunity to record at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama! Becky Blue And The Groove recently received Yoder as a guitarist in the band. Yoder gigs with Blue and was asked to record in The Shoals at FAME. Not only did they record original songs written by the band but one of Jason's original's, making it his first cut! Not too shabby having a first cut recorded at FAME, eh?!
"Acoustic Night : A Pennsylvania Christmas" released in 2010 was Jason's first album. This album features a single acoustic guitar, which plays the melody and the rhythm simultaneously. Jason likes to call it modern classical, or folk classical. This album was played live by Jason at the 2011 CKY Christmas Show.
Jason then released a single in May of 2012, "Oh That Wall". This song was written by Fred Yoder (Jason's Father and Vietnam War Veteran) and is about the Vietnam War and Memorial.
"Still Water Blackout" Jason's newest album, released in July of 2014, contains all original music and lyrics. This album, which is based around the acoustic guitar blends the blues, country, rock, and folk together giving it a unique sound.
Another album in the Acoustic Night series "Acoustic Night: Feather on a Cradle" was released on December 20th of 2016. It is a lullaby album and which features 2 discs. The first disc contains lullabies in the Major keys and the 2nd disc contains those same songs played in the Minor keys. It once again features finger-style acoustic guitar only instrumental songs. It is a delightful addition to Jason's discography.
The swingin' single "Murderous Man" is an upbeat jump blues song about American outlaws "Bonnie and Clyde".
Jason's newest release is a track from his upcoming album on American Deviance. "1848 Escape" describes William and Ellen Craft's fight for freedom.
